This is a historical-fiction book, that describes the true accounts of WWII. During this time, children were evacuated from London, to the countryside for their safety. This is Ada's story, on how she and her brother found refuge. Ada is a young girl with a disability. The novel covers Ada's experiences in an abused home, and how she escaped it. Through the life of Ada, readers are able to see her develop into a courageous individual. Her world changes for the better during wartime, thanks to the genourosity of a stranger, who ultimately becomes her savior. Despite her disabilty, Ada takes charge of her life in the country.
Why would I use this book in the classroom:
As a future educator, I'd use this book in my classroom to introduce my students to a historical era, through the eyes of a child. Ada's story is inspiring, and the perfect coming of age novel to share with older students.
Appropriate grade level:
I think an appropriate grade level for this book is 4th-7th. Older students can understand the setting and historical context that this book offers. Ada's character is also older, so she will resonate with this age group.

- Language Art: I would use this book to teach students about character development in novels. Ada's character changes throughout the book.
