Title: The Tortoise and The Hare
Genre: Traditional Literature

Summary:
This a neat picture book that follows the race between the Tortoise and the Hare. From the start to end, the reader is able to see the Hare go fast, and the Tortoise go slow and steady. Pictures show the two of them throughout the race. During the race, the Hare gets ahead. He stops for a snack break, while the Tortoise races to the finish line at a slow speed. At the end, the Tortoise wins!
Why would I use this book in the classroom:
As a future educator, I'd use this book in my classroom to teach students that determination can lead to success. The Hare is a fast creature, but the slow and steady Tortoise won.
Appropriate grade level:
I think an appropriate grade level for this book is PreK-3rd, because it contains many illustrations. There are a few words in the book. I think that is an easy read for early readers. The students will be able to follow along with the images, and enjoy this book while learning a valuable moral.
Ideas for unit of study to include the book in and how you might use the book in the classroom:
- Language Arts/Art: I would use this book to teach students the moral of the story. I would then have them share a time they learned something valuable.
