Why would I use this book in the classroom:

As a future educator, I'd use this book in my classroom to teach young students who MLK is, and why we celebrate MLK day. The book has short/simple sentences and illustrations of events that took place during the civil rights movement.

Appropriate grade level:

I think an appropriate grade level for this book is PreK-K. This is a board book, so it is an easy read. It has simple sentences that students will be able to follow, while learning about MLK Jr.

Ideas for unit of study to include the book in and how you might use the book in the classroom:

  • Language Arts/Writing: I would use this book to have students complete there own speeches, as MLK Jr. did.
