Summary:
This book is about Lily and Salma's friendship. The two girls are inseparable, until their differences in sandwiches comes between them. This creates a wedge between the girls and their classmates. In the end, the girls make up after a food fight. They swap sandwiches become friends again!
Why would I use this book in the classroom:
As a future educator, I'd use this book in my classroom to encourage student's to try something new! We all differ from one another, but that is what makes us so special. I think students can learn a valuable lesson on friendship by reading this book.
Appropriate grade level:
I think an appropriate grade level for this book is PreK-2. Younger students will find this book fun. It teaches students about friendship, which may be new to this age group.
Ideas for unit of study to include the book in and how you might use the book in the classroom:
- Language Arts/Art: I would use this book to lead an activity on cultural differences. I would have students draw something that they enjoy from their culture. I would them have them share it with a partner.
