Why would I use this book in the classroom:

As a future educator, I'd use this book in my classroom to teach students to have high self esteem! It is important to teach this early on. In life, students will experience teasing and low self-esteem. This really impacts development. Molly Lou Melon's courage is inspirational and will bring students hope.

Appropriate grade level:

I think an appropriate grade level for this book is PreK-3rd. It's never to early to teach these age groups to have a positive mindset when it comes to being who they are.

Ideas for unit of study to include the book in and how you might use the book in the classroom:

  • Language Arts: I would use this book to lead an activity where students do a character analysis. The students will describe Molly Lou Melon.
