This book introduces us to Alexander, and his really bad day. Throughout the day, Alexander describes his unfortunate events. He doesn't get a seat near a window, he doesn't get desert, he has a cavity, he hurts his foot, and so much more! He has quite the day. He wants to get away from it all, and move to Australia. In the end, his mother tells him, some days are just like that.

Why would I use this book in the classroom:

As a future educator, I'd use this book in my classroom teach students about perspective. Your perspective has a great influence on how your day will go. Sometimes things won't always go our way, but it's important to focus on the positive things in life! A lot can happen in a day, but you must make it a good day, the choice is yours.

Appropriate grade level:

I think an appropriate grade level for this book is Pre-K-5th. Alexander has relatable instances in this book. Each thing he goes through, is something that a child can one day expect.

Ideas for unit of study to include the book in and how you might use the book in the classroom:

  • Language Art: I would use this book to lead an activity where students describe a positive thing that has recently happened in their life.
