Summary:

This audio book is a fun fairytale about Gingerella. It's a twist on the classic tales of Cinderella and the Gingerbread Man. Gingerella, is a plain gingerbread girl. Thanks to a woodsman, Gingerella is given a makeover! She attends the royal fair, and is declared the best gingerbread cookie, according to the queen. She even meets her prince charming! In the end, Gingerella and the woodman move into the palace.

Why would I use this book in the classroom:

As a future educator, I'd use this book in my classroom to share a fun traditional literature tale with my students. I really enjoy the enthusiasm that the audio book is narrated in. The listener is able to identify the different characters because of the tone the book is read in. To me, audio books are an entertaining way to read literature. It brings the book to life. I think students will find it fun.

Appropriate grade level:

I think an appropriate grade level for this book is Pre-K-K. Younger students are familiar with Cinderella and the Gingerbread Man. This would be a fun twist.

Ideas for unit of study to include the book in and how you might use the book in the classroom:

  • Language Art: I would use this book to lead an activity where students identify the plot. I'd also allow students to create their own gingerbread recipes/character.
